This year, between 1-3 October in Sofia, took place the national Summer Games of Special Olympics. Founded in 1968 by Kennedy Yuenis Shrivar and driven by volunteers for the benefit of people with intellectual disabilities, Special Olympics provides participation in Olympic sports for more than 3000 athletes in Bulgaria and more than two million athletes in over 150 countries. This is an independent organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee.
For a month and a half two representatives from the association “Shining Dawn” worked to prepare boys from home Lozevo for the race. During training conducted at the town stadium and sport hall Pliska in Shumen, the boys learned to warm up, different types of rollers exercises, running in the corridor, starting and finishing properly and improved their physical qualities - flexibility, speed, mobility. They enjoyed the exercise and care of the coaches and at the actual competition in Sofia felt for the first time felt the pre-start fever and the tears of joy of victory.
The idea of the Special Olympics movement is to engage in sports games to engage both people with intellectual disabilities and without. Association "Shining Dawn” was the only organization involved as collaborators in the form of coaches and partners at the event. The boys from Lozevo showed their qualities and won gold, silver and bronze medals. The award ceremony was attended by world and Olympic champions in athletics and gymnastics, and coaches who were in preparation for the competition. The National Summer Games of Special Olympics in Sofia this year took place under the patronage of Mrs. Zorka Parvanova, Wife to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
